This small site is a guide on attaining a minimalist living, you will still need to put in the work.
When clearing a space, you typically have a solid idea on what items you will be keeping and what items you want to dispose of. The remaining items that require thought can be placed into a system of categories to decide if the item should be disposed of or if the item has a permanent home.
Each item put through the system will be assigned an allotment of points based on where they fit within the categories; the amount of points the item attains will decide if the item is kept or disposed of by selling / dontating / gifting / trashing.
0 points: No emotional attachment
1 point: Mildly sentimental / Good memories however not meaningful
2 points: Strong sentimental value / Meaningful & Irreplacible
0 points: Never used / will not be used anytime soon or within a year
1 point: Occassionally used / Backups
2 points: Regularly used / Essential
0 points: Little to no value / Cheap or worn out
1 point: Some value / Worth listing or taking to a shop for a small amount
2 points: High value / Easy to sell for a meaningful amount / Collectibles
0 points: Large & Bulky / Takes a lot of space (think of furniture)
1 point: Moderate storage needed / Medium sized items
2 points: Compact & Stackable / Easy to store
0 points: Poor / Broken
1 point: Fair / Worn but usable
2 points: Good / Items that still have a lifetime to go
Keeping It Super Simple: Just add up the points assigned to the item to calculate the Total Score.
Total Score = Sentimental + Usefulness + Financial + Storage + Condition
Now that the item has a Total Score, it will be sorted into one of the following tiers which will help decide the item's fate.
8 - 10 points: Always Keep, as these are items of importance & have great overall value
6 - 7 points: Usually Keep but be selective / Dispose of duplicate items
4 - 5 points: Usually Dispose / Keep ONLY if the item fills an essential role
1 - 3 points: Dispose by any means, trash, gift, dontate, or sell if you can
0 points: Trash / Recycle / Usually not worth the effort of anything more
